Me, at the Cafe, Looking at My Phone
This is my new blog, a continuation of my Random Thoughts and Ideas, but not really. I don’t know what this blog will be, but I need to discontinue the .mac blog, so it seems as good a time as any to start a new one.
For now, look for postings of things I find interesting: books, technology, news, pop culture, the Maghreb, the Middle East, social implications of new media, pedagogy, politics and the occasional philosophical musing or a rant on a pet peeve. The topics are generally appropriate for public consumption, it is not a private journal.
Yes, I am narcissistic enough to think my opinion on these things deserves expression, but no, I am not narcissistic enough to think anyone will actually listen to me expound or rant in person. And while I am also enough of an egoistic to believe my thoughts deserve self expression, I am not enough of an egoist to believe that anyone will actually read this except close friends (and then only to give me a hard time about it!) and those who stumble across it in a Google search. So these are lazy entries, full of tpyos and mispelings.
Maybe you’ll spot some grammatical errors. Like sentence fragments. More often you’ll find run on sentences because I sometimes tend to do that, and it’s because when you think you have a lot to say you find that you want to say it all and it is difficult to know where to stop and break the sentence, so you just go on and on, like William Faulkner, except he is a great writer, with talent, and I am a REALLY bad one who can only wish that he had some modicum of that talent because then my run on sentences would be poetic. Or perhaps instead, like Hemingway, I’d keep sentences short yet equally expressive.
But I am neither. So I just hope they make sense.
